Why minoxidil
Step 10 of the 15-step Folli-Heal Plus journey, Folli-Fix Revitalizing Therapy, combines minoxidil with ginger and lemongrass extracts. Minoxidil is one of the most studied topical ingredients for pattern hair loss, so it is worth knowing what the trials actually measured.
The trial in men
Olsen and colleagues randomised 393 men aged 18 to 49 with androgenetic alopecia to 5% minoxidil, 2% minoxidil or placebo, applied twice daily for 48 weeks. At week 48, 5% minoxidil was significantly better than both 2% and placebo for change in non-vellus hair count and for patient and investigator ratings of scalp coverage, with about 45% more regrowth than 2%. Response also came earlier with 5%. Itching and local irritation were more common with 5% [1].
The trial in women
Lucky and colleagues ran a similar 48-week trial in 381 women aged 18 to 49 with female pattern hair loss. 5% minoxidil beat placebo on all three primary measures. 2% beat placebo on hair count and investigator assessment, but not on the women’s own assessment. Itching, local irritation and unwanted facial hair (hypertrichosis) were more common with 5% [2].
How to read it carefully
Both trials tested a home routine: the solution was applied twice a day, every day, for almost a year. They did not test an in-session application combined with other steps, and they did not test Folli-Fix itself. Results vary from person to person, and they take months, not weeks.
