What was tested
Nine healthy men received four minutes of standardised scalp massage with a device every day for 24 weeks. Researchers measured hair thickness and also studied how stretching affected cultured human dermal papilla cells [1].
What changed
Average hair thickness rose from 0.085 mm to 0.092 mm after 24 weeks. In the laboratory, stretched dermal papilla cells showed changes in hair-cycle-related genes [1]. Thicker individual hairs can make hair look fuller even without more hairs.
Limits
The study had only nine participants, no control group of untreated men, and did not include women or people with hair loss. Larger trials are needed before strong conclusions can be drawn.
Massage in your routine and in our sessions
Gentle fingertip massage while shampooing is easy, cheap and relaxing; avoid scratching with nails. In Folli-Heal Plus, scalp massage is step 4 of 15, the Scalp Revitalization Massage, which follows the ginger essence hot and cold compress in step 3. The study used a device for 4 minutes a day at home, so it explains why massage is studied rather than proving our step.

Results vary from person to person.
FAQ
How long should I massage my scalp?
The study used four minutes a day [1]. A few minutes of gentle massage while washing is a reasonable habit.
Can massage stop hair loss?
There is not enough evidence to say so. The study measured thickness in healthy men, not hair loss [1].
Should I use oils?
Light products are fine if your scalp is not oily or flaky; heavy oils can worsen dandruff for some people.
